Google To Stop Showing Ads On Right Side

Google AdwordsOnline advertising with Google Adwords is one of the most effective ways to reach new customers and grow your business. Internet marketers know that using Google Adwords is an excellent way to drive traffic to their sites. Google Adwords is the easy, effective way to reach potential customers already searching the Internet for information about your products and services.

For a small business, Google AdWords can be a hugely successful method of driving traffic, marketing your product and ultimately getting increased sales. However, if you’re not careful, automation in Google AdWords can sometimes blow things up. This week Google Adwords released an update.

Google Confirms Four Ads At The Top & Removing Right Side Ads

Google has been testing four AdWords ads since 2006 and recently stepped up those tests in late 2015. Now, according to Search Engine Land, Google has confirmed that they are switching over from showing ads on the right side to having four ads at the top.

Google will no longer show ads to the right of its search results, instead it will show four ads at the top with two exceptions. Google will show PLAs (Product Listing Ads) and ads in the knowledge graph on the right hand side.

This is the talk of the SEM industry, which has been buzzing about it all weekend.

Here is a screen shot of the ads showing on the right:

Now imagine those ads on the right completely gone. Read Google Adwords information here..

The silver lining here is that those advertisers who do not show for the first 4 AdWords ads can show here as a product listing instead, provided they have a PLA campaign set-up.

Confirmed: Google To Stop Showing Ads On Right Side Of Desktop Search Results Worldwide

Google is rolling out a dramatic change that removes ads from the right side of its desktop search results, and places ads only at the top and/or bottom of the page. At the same time, the company says it may show an additional ad — four, not three — above the search results for what it calls “highly commercial queries.”

All of this represents the conclusion of a test that began all the way back in 2010, and has been tweaked over the years since then. Search Engine Land readers — particularly some outside the U.S. — notified us late last year that they were seeing the top-only ads more frequently.

A Google spokesperson has confirmed to Search Engine Land that the change is now rolling out to all searches in all languages worldwide. Ads will not appear on the right side of desktop search results, with two exceptions:

  1. Product Listing Ad (PLA) boxes, which show either above or to the right of search results
  2. ads in the Knowledge Panel

To clarify, the elimination of right-side ads impacts all desktop searches worldwide; the addition of the fourth ad above search results will happen for “highly commercial queries.” This would involve searches like “hotels in New York City” or “car insurance” and the like. More details here.

This Google AdWords update is also important when it comes to estimating costs and performance based on search exposure. When it comes to your first foray into online advertising, absolutely, strongholdseoservices.com.au are a great place to start.
